WHERE do JOBS come from?

In the aggregate:

Establishments <=1 year old create jobs

Establishments >1 year old shed jobs

This hold across almost all years, all industry sectors and apparently across most US regions and across countries.

Schumpeter was definitely right here...

** new "establishments" include startups and expansions of an existing organization to a new physical location - an interesting sidebar is that the % of establishments that are nonprofits is increasing.
